This Story Is Amazing....

Hello, My Faithful Readers...Brain Teaser Tuesday is on Hiatus for a while...So....Here is an amazing story of Courage under Fire....

"Royal Marine who jumped on grenade awarded George Cross

A Royal Marine is to receive the highest award for gallantry after jumping on a hand grenade to save the lives of three of his comrades.

By Thomas Harding Defence Correspondent

Royal Marine Matthew Croucher, from Birmingham, 'fully expected' to lose a limb but was willing to make the sacrifice 'if I could keep my torso and head intact' L/Cpl Matthew Croucher will become part of a select of group of just 20 living George Cross holders when the Queen awards him the medal, which is given for acts showing the same level of heroism as the Victoria Cross.

The Marine had less than seven seconds to make up his mind on whether to risk sacrificing his own life to save his friends when the hand grenade rolled onto the ground during an operation in Afghanistan earlier this year.
Without hesitating he chose to chance death and save his three fellow Royal Marines.

Now he has been awarded the George Cross, the highest decoration for bravery while not in the face of the enemy, which is surpassed only by the award of the Victoria Cross for thehighest level of bravery in the face of the enemy.

"It was a case of either having four of us as fatalities or badly wounded-or one," he said after the incident last February in Helmand province L/Cpl Croucher, 24, was part of a company of 40 Commando sent to investigate a suspected Taliban bomb-making factory near the town of Sangin when he set off the trip-wire booby-trap that unleashed the deadly grenade.

"I thought, 'I've set this bloody thing off and I'm going to do whatever it takes to protect the others,'" he said.
The Marine then shouted "Grenade. Take cover" to three men close to the bomb. "I knew a grenade like this has a killing circumference of about five metres," he said. "I'd been through this scenario in my mind and realised there was nowhere to take cover-there's no point running off because you're going to catch shrapnel.

"The lads behind me would have caught a lot too." The serviceman, from Birmingham, "fully expected" to lose a limb but was willing to make the sacrifice "if I could keep my torso and head intact". He dove onto the floor, rolled over and used his backpack - containing a 66mm rocket, a large lithium battery and medical kit - to cover the lethal shrapnel fragments from the coming blast.

When the bang went off he was thrown through the air and suffered just a nose bleed.
"It took 30 seconds before I realised I was definitely not dead," he said.
The astonished Marines looked on as L/Cpl Croucher's body armour and backpack shielded everyone from the blast which caused a few cuts and bruises. L/Cpl Croucher was examined by a medic who recommended he should be evacuated but the Marine, who has completed three tours of Iraq, was determined to stay to fight the Taliban and within an hour had shot an insurgent approaching their position.

In an earlier instance of bravery the Marine attended a comrade shot in the chest preventing his lungs from collapsing while under fire for 45 minutes. "Bullets were landing everywhere and at one stage a rocket-propelled grenade landed three metres from us. It injured four other guys," he later said. L/Cpl Croucher has kept his backpack as a trophy of the day he "beat the grim reaper".

"When I see it I'm constantly reminded how lucky I am," he said. "

Blog Number #48 or " What kind of Doofus ? "

It's Monday and Not a lot happened......Still Hot..and over the Weekend " The Dark Knight " took $300 million. ... So, here is something I think needs to be told .

Story Follows...

Lawnmower Won't Start? Don't Do THIS

"It's very hot outside. The bugs are flying in your ears. Mowing the lawn isn't fun, but if your lawnmower goes on the fritz, don't pull out your gun and shoot it. That's what Keith Walendowski, a 56-year-old Milwaukke resident did and now he could spend more than six years in prison.

The Associated Press reports that Walendowski told police he was angry with his Lawn Boy when it wouldn't start on July 23. She pulled out his shotgun and blasted the thing. "I can do that, it's my lawn mower and my yard so I can shoot it if I want," he told police. Not exactly. Walendowski has been charged with felony possession of a short-barreled shotgun or rifle and misdemeanor disorderly conduct while armed.

The strange shooting was reported by a woman who lives in Walendowski's house. She said he was intoxicated. Now he faces up to an $11,000 fine and six years and three months in prison if convicted. "

#46 or How Spooky is this....

Whoa.....this is freaky....Tomorrow the New " X-Files " Movie Comes out....and here I was surfing the web when I found....this news Story..... Listed Below.

Couple claim mysterious noise plagues their house

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) - Bob and Leona Ehrfurth say the noise that's been plaguing them for two years sounds something like a rumbling motor, with a subtle vibration that won't quit. Then it stops - especially when they try to show city officials or acoustic experts what they're hearing. It's enough to keep 76-year-old Leona from sleeping.

``It's like there's a semi parked right outside with the engine running, but when you look out, there isn't one,'' she said. She and her husband, who is 75, have lived in the same house for 42 years. The problem only developed over the last two years. Her husband can sleep through it but also finds it irritating.

``It doesn't matter if the windows are open or closed - you still hear it,'' he said. ``It's worse in the winter.''
When they leave, the don't hear the noise, he said, so they know it's not some health problem the two share.
City officials hired a company for $1,000 worth of testing in the house this spring, but the tester came up with no noise and no significant vibration.

Alderman Andy Nicholson knows exactly what's bugging the Ehrfurths. ``Yeah, I've experienced it,'' Nicholson said. ``It's like an engine thing, a low-frequency vibration. I think it would be an annoyance.'' He had hoped the testing equipment could be used inside one of the factories in the area, but Municipal Judge Jerry Hanson wouldn't sign the inspection warrant because there was no reasonable suspicion of a violation.

The Ehrfurths' immediate neighbors haven't complained, although some people, like Nicholson, have said they heard the sound.

The couple said the noise started soon after St. Bernard's Parish across the street had the roofing, chimney and ductwork on a wing of its school redone. However, when the parish staff turned off all of its equipment as a test, the noise continued.

The city's Protection & Welfare Committee planned to take up the matter Wednesday night, when it discusses a report from Predictive Technologies Inc., which did vibration testing at the home. Leona Ehrfurth said she's had to go to the basement or try to sleep in the sunroom to escape the noise.

``I try to stay in bed, but I get such a bad headache, I can't take it,'' she said. ``We could move, but why should we have to? We didn't cause it.''

#45 or Really? Only 5 More to go? or Michael Savage said what?

It's Now The Final Stretch until the 50th BLOG ( insert cheering audience here ). So..Next Wed will be the Super Dee Duper ( sorry Barney ) Awesome , Amazing , All -Encompassing Spectacular Uber Wonderful , Blog so good it will make you wanna slap yo momma Anniversary Blog . So, as I have posted in the past...ANY ideas e mail me at abstraktrt@gmail.com .

Ok, Enough of that ( straightens shirt collar ) Now onto something more serious. namely what has been said about Autistic Children by " Savage Nation " host Michael Savage . Fact: This is NOT the first time he has been in trouble for saying something like this in November 2007 he talked about Islamic-Americans : Some of his on-air comments: "The Koran is “a book of hate”; some Muslims, at least, “need deportation”; and adherents of Islam would do well to “take your religion and shove it up your behind” because “I’m sick of you.” " Then He told a caller who was gay said he would die of AIDS " And Now...He is speaking his peace on Autism , Last Week on his show He Said "What do you mean they scream and they're silent? They don't have a father around to tell them, 'Don't act like a moron. You'll get nowhere in life. Stop acting like a putz. Straighten up. Act like a man. Don't sit there crying and screaming, you idiot." Parents are and Should be Up at arms about what he said and If it means Getting him off the air....Get Him Off!!!

#44 or Another Brain Teaser Tuesday or We Need More Rain

Yes, Thats Right.....It's time for another BRAIN TEASER TUESDAY ( insert echo here ) . First the Answers to last weeks Questions then....Maybe this weeks Questions.

  1. Pour the lentils into the innkeeper’s sack, bind it and turn inside out. Pour in the peas. Then unbind the sack a pour the lentils back to your sack.
  2. This is a nice nonsense. Each guest paid $9 because they gave $30 and they were given back $3. The manager got $25 and the difference ($2) has the bellboy. So it is nonsense to add the $2 to the $27, since the bellboy kept the $2.
  3. The two children were so befogged over the calendar that they had started on their way to school on Sunday morning!
  4. The man is a of short stature. He can't reach the upper elevator buttons, but he can ask people to push them for him. He can also push them with his umbrella.
  5. Clocks can measure time even when they do not show the right time. You just have to wind the clock up and...We have to suppose that the journey to the friend and back lasts exactly the same time and the friend has a clock (showing the correct time) - it would be too easy if mentioned in the riddle. Now there is no problem to figure out the solution, is there?

Now, This Weeks Questions ( since you've ll been good )

  1. "How can you throw a ball as hard as you can and have it come back to you, even if it doesn't hit anything, there is nothing attached to it, and no one else catches or throws it?"
  2. "Imagine you are in a room with 3 switches. In an adjacent room there are 3 bulbs (Edit: let's say in lamps which are on a regular table) - all are off at the moment, each switch belongs to one bulb. It is impossible to see from one room to another. How can you find out which switch belongs to which bulb, if you may enter the room with the bulbs only once?" Edit: No help from anybody else is allowed. Edit: Find out which switch belongs to which bulb - identify all 3 switches (so find out what bulbs are switches 1, 2 and 3 connected to)
  3. "A table tennis ball (= ping pong ball) fell into a tight deep pipe (amendment: eg. 30 cm long, buried in concrete pavement - having firm metal bottom, only 1 cm of the pipe is above the ground - so it can not be moved). The pipe was only a bit wider than the ball, so you can not use your hand. How would you take it out, with no damage?" Edit:There is another more straight forward wording . You are stuck in a room with no windows and no doors. There is a hole in the floor about a foot deep (ok, half a meter for you non-americans) and just wider than the diameter of a table tennis ball. There is a table tennis ball at the bottom of the hole. You have a fork, a wrench, and a long, thin plastic wire. How do you get the ball out of the hole?"
  4. "A square medieval castle on a square island was under siege. All around the island, there was a 10 metre wide water moat. But the conquerors could make foot-bridges only 9.5 metres long. Nevertheless a wise man was able to figure out how to get over the water. What do you think was his advice?(There's a place on the other side to put the bridge against, not just a sheer wall. the water moat has square corners - that section of the moat is about 14.1 metres wide.)"
  5. "Three masters of logic wanted to find out who was the wisest one. So they invited the grand master, who took them into a dark room and said: "I will paint each one of you a red or a blue dot on your forehead. When you walk out and you see at least one red point, raise your hands. The one who says what colour is the dot on his own forehead first, wins." Then he painted only red dots on every one. When they went out everybody had their hands up and after a while one of them said: "I have a red dot on my head."How could he be so sure?"

So, As per the other weeks before...If you think you know the answers e mail me at abstraktrt@gmail.com

Good Luck , You'll Need it ( otherwise you may experience Brain Meltation )

#43 or Another Monday or Geez, Would you give It up already?

Ok, Its Official...It's Monday...the worst day of the week.....but it wasn't a bad weekend for a certain Caped Crusader . Yes, I speak of " The Dark Knight " which racked a total of $155.34 Million ( place pinky to side of mouth a la Dr Evil ) Dollars, beating a certain Web Slinging Hero from last year ( Sorry Spidey ) . Below is the rest of the money makers.

  • 2. ``Mamma Mia!'', $27.6 million.
    3. ``Hancock,'' $14 million.
    4. ``Journey to the Center of the Earth,'' $11.9 million.
    5. ``Hellboy II: The Golden Army,'' $10 million.
    6. ``WALL-E,'' $9.8 million.
    7. ``Space Chimps,'' $7.4 million.
    8. ``Wanted,'' $5.1 million.
    9. ``Get Smart,'' $4.1 million.
    10. ``Kung Fu Panda,'' $1.8 million.

Some things that would really be Ironic if they were ever done.

  1. Go to a Local Donut Shop and survey the workers on actually how many Police Officers actually stop in for a donut.

  2. Go to the DMV and Film a Documentary called " Long Lines at the DMV " but film it at the slowest point of the day

  3. Go to a local lumber yard and ask customers " How Much Wood Could A Woodchuck Chuck If A Woodchuck Could Chuck Wood "?

  4. Film a Commercial for a Cemetary and have the Tag Line Read " People are just Dyng to get in "

#41 or 9 more to go until the big 5-0 or I haven't seen " The Dark Knight" yet...

It's Friday.....Time for everyone to Take a Pill for the Weekend...It's gonna be hot ! So Stay cool If you can....Yes, this is # 41 and Still on the way to #50 . Still, no one has sent me Ideas on what Number 50 should be about . I'm still taking suggestions . Yesterday I made a blog faux pas and reported that William Hurt was in " The Dark Knight " . Believe it or not..I WAS WRONG, It's Not William Hurt , It's Gary Oldman who plays Lt. James Gordon . I wanted to rectify this problem before some BatFans somewhere read this and I was Showered with Nasty E mails . Sorry, Sorry, Sorry..ok?

Blog # 40 or Holy Cow! You Mean I've Lasted this long???

Ok Ok...I know...Forgot Yesterday...But It's ok....I've lasted what is now 40 Blogs . Ten away from #50 ( insert trumpet fanfare , small children crying , women fainting and dogs howling here ) . Thursday Is just 24 hours away from the long awaited Sequel of " Batman Begins " ....." The Dark Knight " - Starring Christian Bale, Michael Caine , William Hurt and Heath Ledger ( Rest In Peace ) . Many People say that Hollywood is Cashing In on Ledgers Death, which as we all know in Hollywood ( Never Happens anyway ) The Fact is....Ledger Died AFTER he Finished " The Dark Knight " and was preparing for a role that was darker than His Joker Role. So To say they're cashing in on it..is NOT TRUE. May I remind everyone that although Brandon Lee ( son of Bruce Lee ) was killed during filming the film " The Crow " due to an unfortunate accident with a gun that was supposed to have blanks. THEY DID THE MOVIE AFTER HE WAS KILLED , and It was Great. So, let the naysayers say and the conspiracy theorists talk all they want If anyone is to blame its the Prescription Meds that killed him.

Remember this - " Drugs are bad, M'kay "

Brain Teaser Tuesday Part III or Geez Already, How Much longer can this go on?

Welcome to Another Brain Teaser Tuesday...And Now....Last Weeks Answers :

  1. She Was Walking
  2. The marines were standing back to the edge of the ship so they were looking at each other. It does not matter where the ship is (of course it does not apply to the north and South Pole).
  3. I am looking at my son.
  4. Add up all the injuries, and you find that 100 soldiers suffered a total of 310 injuries. That total means that, at a minimum, 100 soldiers (Edit: it is, of course, not 100 soldiers, but 100 as calculation from 310 person-injuries out of 400 possible) lost 3 body parts, and 10 (the remainder when dividing 310 by 100) must have lost all 4 body parts. (In reality, as many as 70 may have lost all 4 body parts.)
  5. 4 kids get an apple (one apple for each one of them) and the fifth kid gets an apple with the basket still containing the apple.

And Now, This Weeks Questions:

  1. "A poor farmer went to a market to sell some peas and lentils, however as he had only one sack and didn't want to mix peas and lentils, he poured in the peas at first, bound the sack up and than poured in the lentils. At the market a rich innkeeper wanted to buy the peas, but he did not want the lentils. How would you solve this problem if you had only the sack of the innkeeper, which he wants to keep (without devaluing the goods). Also Trading Sacks IS NOT ALLOWED "
  2. "Three people check into a hotel. They pay $30 to the manager and go to their room. The manager finds out that the room rate is $25 and gives $5 to the bellboy to return. On the way to the room the bellboy reasons that $5 would be difficult to share among three people so he pockets $2 and gives $1 to each person. Now each person paid $10 and got back $1. So they paid $9 each, totalling $27. The bellboy has $2, totalling $29.Where is the remaining dollar?"
  3. "Two children, who were all tangled up in their reckoning of the days of the week, paused on their way to school to straighten matters out. "When the day after tomorrow is yesterday," said Priscilla, then 'today' will be as far from Sunday as that day was which was 'today' when the day before yesterday was tomorrow!"On which day of the week did this puzzling prattle occur?"
  4. "A man lives on the tenth floor of a building. Every morning he takes the elevator down to the lobby and leaves the building. In the evening, he gets into the elevator, and, if there is someone else in the elevator - or if it was raining that day - he goes back to his floor directly. Otherwise, he goes to the seventh floor and walks up three flights of stairs to his apartment. Can you explain why?"
  5. "This is an old logic puzzle. One philosopher had a clock, which he had forgotten to wind up. He had no other clock, watch, radio, TV, phone or any other device telling the time. So when his clock stopped he went to a friend, stayed there the whole night and when he came home, he knew the right time. How could he know?Hint: Road from one house to another is flat plane only."

Brain Teaser Tuesday

Ok, Time for a New Feature on this Blog....Introducing " BRAIN TEASER TUESDAY " or BTT as it may be eventually called...Not to be confused with ATT the Phone Company.
