Shane Pruitt Band and friends - 11/28/08 - Friday
8:30 pm - 11:00 pm

An Evening withThe Shane Pruitt Band and friends
Tickets $10

Shane, Bill and Jim take to the Showroom stage with holiday guests including the Barrel House Mamas, Jeff Holland, Gregory Hodges, Mac McCloud and more for this special day after Thanksgiving show.

With its raw, refined, explorative, and expressive brand of blues, the Shane Pruitt Band has quickly become one of the most recognized and popular bands in the area. Since its emergence on the regional music scene, the Shane Pruitt Band has opened for numerous National Acts, headlined several local blues festivals, and received a lot of support from local media outlets.

Shane Pruitt (guitar/vocals) has been playing the southeast for 15 years, despite his young age. He has played in numerous bands and has opened shows for or played with artists such as Johnny Winter, Junior Brown, Coco Montoya, Porter, Batiste and Stoltz and many others. Shane's guitar style evokes the intensity of Buddy Guy, Albert Collins, Freddie King and Duane Allman. Jim Peterman (organ/vocals) was an original member of the Steve Miller Band back in 1967. He played on their first two albums, before pursuing other career goals. He spent many years playing organ with gospel groups, which contributes to his soulful, church-like playing. It is a great compliment to Shane's soulful, heartfelt guitar playing. Bill Fletcher (drums/vocals) rounds out the band's sound with an old school style that harkens back to the in-the-pocket playing of drummers like Roger Hawkins and Al Jackson, Jr. Bill has spent many years playing in the southeast with various blues and soul bands, including Cocktail Frank and with blues singer Robin Rogers.

Visit the Shane Pruitt Band myspace for music and more.

BYOA - Bring Your Own Art
at 125 W. Main St. (the old Kimbrell's space)
Downtown Spartanburg 7-10pm

Four years ago, before there was a Showroom Gallery and Performance Hall, HUB-BUB.COM hosted the very first BYOA (Bring Your Own Art) Show at a vacant downtown building. The event was such a success that it became an annual tradition. For the past two years the event has been held at The Showroom and has attracted over 40 artists from around the area and attracted crowds of hundreds of people each time. In 2007 the event maxed out the space prompting HUB-BUB to seach for a larger location. On Saturday November 22nd HUB-BUB will host the fourth annual BYOA show at 125 W. Main St., in the old Kimbrell’s Furniture space on Morgan Square.

BYOA is a spontaneous art exhibit and sale with no selection process or submission required by the artists. It’s a great opportunity for artists to have their work shown and the perfect place to for patrons to find a unique gift for the holiday season.

This is always a fun event and the use of the vacant space will only add to the excitement as the building is filled with art on easels, propped and leaned. The event will take place from 7 til 10pm and in addition to the varied selection of art, crafts and jewelry those attending can enjoy food, drink and music by local DJ Tony P. Busy Weekend in the Hub City

Tonight: ART WALK

Art Walk Spartanburg returns on Thursday, November 20 from 5 to 9 p.m. This will be an opportunity to explore the many art resources downtown. Visitors may look for the trolley signs for assistance in roaming between the Chapman Cultural Center, Spartanburg Art Museum, HUB-BUB's Showroom, Carolina Gallery, Myst Gallery, and Crescent Gallery.

A performance component will direct movement from the installation site to other venures in the Art Walk district, culminating at the Spartanburg Art Museum and the Artists Guild Gallery.

On exhibit in the portico of the David Reid Theater at the Chapman Cultural Center, are 4 sculptures that are part of the Brookgreen Gardens Upstate SculpTour. The lobby of the theater will also be open so visitors can see 4 additional sculptures from the SculpTour. Tonight! Live at the Showroom

Tonight @ The Showroom

Seth Kauffman - 11/14/08 - Friday
9:00 pm - 12:00 am

Friday, November 14th 9pm$8

Seth Kauffman returns to the Showroom fresh off of his tour with labelmates Dr. Dog.

After his 2006 debut full-length on Hightone Records left critics drawing comparisons as diverse as Motown to the Carribean, Seth Kauffman returns with 'Research' (Park The Van). Once again Kauffman performed and recorded virtually every note himself at his home studio, and -- in an age where obsessive computer editing and auto-tuning are taking the humanity out of even most home recordings -- once again his refreshingly organic approach to making records has received rave reviews:

"...this delightfully twisted platter will get under your skin like nothing you've heard all year." -Harp.

The Name is Boil, Spark and Boil

REMINDER: Today is Veterans Day, and I a Freedom Loving American wishes to say to ALL Soldiers THANK YOU FOR FIGHTING FOR US , GOD BLESS YOU ALL. So If you know a Veteran take time to shake their hand and thank them. God Bless America and Our Military

This Friday, the New Bond Movie Comes to the Big Screen, Daniel Craig reprises his role as 007 in " Quantum of Solace " Opening Friday, Check Theater Times

Spark n' Boil - 11/11/08 - Tuesday
7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

“It’s your second chance to get your name on the board. Come play with us and break the rules.”

SNB is a community “play” group, open to anyone wishing to exercise their intuition and exchange unbridled energy with both peers and strangers. Through unconvential and, potentially, childish activities, we strive to stimulate and enable our natural instincts that are often cast aside in contemporary society. By dismissing behavoiral and cultural expectations, we will liberate ourselves as individuals, and learn to accept the great diversity that makes each of us eternally exciting, tantalizing, thrilling, enthralling, gallbladderific...forever unboringness!

Through synchronized physical and intellectual challenges, we will examine the established model of a “respectable” adult, with theater games, gentle partner stretching, show and tell, journaling, public performances, story hour, paper bag puppetry, food fights, gum chewing contests, free haircuts, modern dance, upholstering lessons, ant farming, large-scale balloon caressing, Swedish audio instruction, lense popping, lime-hydration techniques…even snack time. SNB will provide a nurturing environment, brimming with spontanaeity. We will generate trust, love and freedom within the community, and hope you like us anyway.

SNB workshops will meet two Tuesday evenings during the early part of each month at HUB-BUB in preparation for a live performance that will take place in the Spartanburg community later in the month. Folks need to come dressed in comfortable clothes for easy movin'. This class is open to those 21 and older.

November 5th 2008

Let's take a day to reflect, on what's happened in the past 24 hours. Some People won Some People Lost. What we need to do now is Get over it...Get on with life and Pray for our Nation and the World. I saw the Reaction on Television this Morning after Sen. Barack Obamas Win. The World was Cheering because they saw Change occuring , it seemed like there was a Newfound Hope for America and the World. I myself Being open to change. I think we as a people should look past whether we are Red or Blue and Come together for the Good of the Nation and start new friendships....The Racial Barrier was Broken , Can't The Party Color Barrier Be Broken As Well? I believe it can : John 13:34"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. " I being of Republican Status believe America Can Change for the Better. I know I will get E mails and dirty looks for what I have said here today . So I'll understand if you no longer want to read my blog.....drop me a line either way . you know the email by now.

God Bless America
