First of the Year : ART WALK
Art Walk Spartanburg returns on Thursday, January 15 from 5 to 9 p.m. in a new opportunity to explore the many art resources downtown. Posters and maps are available at the art venues, and visitors should look for trolley signs for assistance in roaming between several exhibits.
In addition to Carolina Gallery, MYST Gallery and Crescent Gallery, there will be additional storefronts open with special art walk exhibitions.
New this month is Gallery 155, on the corner of Broad and Liberty, featuring selections from a local collection.
Carolina Gallery is holding an opening reception from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. for Isabel Forbes, whose work depicts everyday scenes from life, which, she says, "express the love and nostalgic feelings I have for this place I now call home."
Stephen Stinson, art photographer, and Ed Emory of Carolina Gallery are collaboratively producing a collection of photographs on canvas that feature portraits of important local artists. Each Art Walk will have additional photographs on display.
On exhibit in the portico of the David Reid Theater at the Chapman Cultural Center, are 4 sculptures that are part of the Brookgreen Gardens Upstate SculpTour. The lobby of the theater will also be open so visitors can see 4 additional sculptures from the SculpTour. The Art Museum is showing "Paws & Reflect", artwork by leading artists whose focus is canines. Also in the museum, the Artists Guild Gallery exhibits work by Linda Hudgins.
Several local retail merchants are participating by extending their hours into the evening.
Art Walk Spartanburg returns every Third Thursday of the month with all venues open to the public.

Coma Cinema is an American Musical Group on the Off Key Corral recording label. They have been writing and performing music with various musicians since 2005. The current line up consists of Mathew Cothran (guitar, vocals, lyrics), Ronni Van Winkle (bass, vocals, lyrics), Kenny Norseworthy (drums, vocals, lyrics), and Ryan Norton (Organ). Coma Cinema perfoms pop music, influenced by various forms studio experimentation. Their first album, to be released on January 16th, 2009 is called "Baby Prayers".

AIR Show Opening 2009
I know this is Highly Unusual....But...a rare Night Time Blog...
Tonight I went to the Artist In Residence Show down at The Showroom. I must say..quite a bit of talent there.
There were Sculptures....Video Production......and several Pictures....One In Particular I found Very Interesting.... it was called " D*** Squirrels After My Pecans " and I found it Interesting...In this picture was depicted an Old Man sitting in his Kitchen with his Shotgun pointed out the window at a yard filled with Squirrels the funniest part of the picture was the shotgun was focused on one squirrel and the squirrel had its paws raised in surrender. another i guess you could call it " sculpture " was one entitled " Bigfoot" consisted of a pair of big hairy feet at the bottom of a sheet that was covering the rest of " Bigfoot " as if it was hiding.
If you Didn't make it there tonight...I am sure it will be on display for some time.

Big Music Happenins' in the Hub City

Gypsy Souls - CD Release party

Gypsy Souls is an all-star 5 piece group from the upstate. Many members are from other bands and most all have at one time played professionally with other artists and toured nationally. The group has been performing since 2004 and have developed a huge local following playing over 250 dates a year. Playing on such a regular basis the group has honed their skills and know how to work the crowd providing a mix of funk, jazz and blues, mixing in top 40 hits and classics.
Over the years the group has seen several personnel changes but the constant is bandleader and bassist Franklin Wilkie. Franklin is one of the founding members of the group and gained national recognition playing with The Marshall Tucker Band and Garfield Ruff for a number of years.
This show celebrates the release of the group’s first CD and showcases the talents of the members.CDs will be available for purchase at the show.

Tickets: $10 advance/door
Gypsy Souls is an all-star 5 piece group from the upstate. Many members are from other bands and most all have at one time played professionally with other artists and toured nationally. The group has been performing since 2004 and have developed a huge local following playing over 250 dates a year. Playing on such a regular basis the group has honed their skills and know how to work the crowd providing a mix of funk, jazz and blues, mixing in top 40 hits and classics.
Over the years the group has seen several personnel changes but the constant is bandleader and bassist Franklin Wilkie. Franklin is one of the founding members of the group and gained national recognition playing with The Marshall Tucker Band and Garfield Ruff for a number of years.
This show celebrates the release of the group’s first CD and showcases the talents of the members.CDs will be available for purchase at the show.

Everyone Enjoy these Norrisisms that I found on one of the many sites out there...
- At birth, Chuck Norris came out feet first so he could roundhouse kick the doctor in the face. Nobody delivers Chuck Norris but Chuck Norris.
- Chuck Norris is an avid swimmer. On Boxing Day, 2004, He did a Cannon Ball in his backyard pool on the small Californian Island of Catalina. Any events that followed are strictly coincidental, and all nay-sayers will be roundhouse kicked into agreement.
- The 'c' in Einstein's 'E = mc^2' equation originally stood for Chuck Norris. But Einstein realized no human mind could fully grasp the concept of Chuck Norris multiplied by Chuck Norris, so he dumbed it down to something easier to understand, like the speed of light.
- Achilles is supposedly the greatest warrior of all time, but he died because of his weak spot: the Achilles tendon. There is no Chuck Norris tendon.
- Chuck Norris has to sleep with a night light. Not because Chuck Norris is afraid of the dark, but because the dark is afraid of Chuck Norris.
- Chuck Norris has been the "Employee of the Month" at the buffet down the street from me every month since they've opened. He's never even been there
- How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could Chuck Norris? All of it.
- Chuck Norris sold his soul to the devil for his rugged good looks and unparalleled martial arts ability. Shortly after the transaction was finalized, Chuck roundhouse-kicked the devil in the face and took his soul back. The devil, who appreciates irony, couldn't stay mad and admitted he should have seen it coming. They now play poker every second Wednesday of the month.
- Chuck Norris beat IBM's Deep Blue in chess in under 30 seconds, then killed the families of the engineers who designed it because Chuck Norris has no patience for incompetence.
- Chuck Norris plays Tennis with a 10lb ball bearing.

Gypsy Souls - CD Release party - 1/9/09 - Friday

Gypsy Souls is an all-star 5 piece group from the upstate. Many members are from other bands and most all have at one time played professionally with other artists and toured nationally. The group has been performing since 2004 and have developed a huge local following playing over 250 dates a year. Playing on such a regular basis the group has honed their skills and know how to work the crowd providing a mix of funk, jazz and blues, mixing in top 40 hits and classics.
Over the years the group has seen several personnel changes but the constant is bandleader and bassist Franklin Wilkie. Franklin is one of the founding members of the group and gained national recognition playing with The Marshall Tucker Band and Garfield Ruff for a number of years.
This show celebrates the release of the group’s first CD and showcases the talents of the members. CDs will be available for purchase at the show.
