What IS It? Mystery Noise in Space
It's very, very far away, but astronomers have detected what is essentially a noise that is so loud coming from outer space that it can only be described as a roar.
And they have no idea what is causing it!!
Space.com reports that the strange cosmic sound is booming six times louder than expected. Since sound waves can't travel well in the vacuum that is space, the sound must be a radio wave. Lots of objects in space--from stars to quasars and even our own Milky Way--emit radio waves. But this sound is different. There is "something new and interesting going on in the universe," Alan Kogut of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland told his colleagues gathered at the 213th meeting of the American Astronomical Society in Long Beach, California.
How did they find this? By accident. Kogut lead a team that was using a balloon-borne instrument named ARCADE (Absolute Radiometer for Cosmology, Astrophysics and Diffuse Emission) to search the sky for faint signs of heat from the first generation of stars. The instrument was launched in July 2006 from NASA's Columbia Scientific Balloon Facility in Palestine, Texas and reached an altitude of about 120,000 feet.
But instead of finding what they set out to find, astronomers heard this roaring sound. "The universe really threw us a curve," Kogut told Space.com. "Instead of the faint signal we hoped to find, here was this booming noise six times louder than anyone had predicted."
What IS it? They don't know, but they have managed to figure out what it is NOT. It's not primordial stars or any known radio sources, including gas in the outermost halo of our own galaxy. And it's not other radio galaxies because there aren't enough of them.
Whatever it is remains a mystery, and it's obscuring the signal they want to receive from the earliest stars in the cosmos. "This is what makes science so exciting," team member Michael Seiffert of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California told Space.com. "You start out on a path to measure something--in this case, the heat from the very first stars--but run into something else entirely, some unexplained."

Ding Dong...Who's there?
Belleville Outfit with Dehlia Low - 2/13/09 - Friday
8:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Belleville Outfit - Dehlia Low opens
Friday, February 13 8pm (doors at 7:30)$15 advance /door
With a tight, seamless sound — a mix of gypsy swing, big band, jazz, country and cross-genre Americana roots music, original songs and clever covers — the astonishing six-piece belies the 20-something ages of its members and its vast experience garnered swiftly after its union around Merlefest 2007 in Wilkesboro, N.C.
In fact, in less than two years, the band has played for more than 15,000 people; ridden in a van-with-trailer to get to shows from Texas to Nashville to the Carolinas; sold out shows throughout Texas and along the East Coast; shared stages with the likes of Lyle Lovett, Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, The Del McCoury Band, and Mark O’Connor; and recorded a full-length debut album with producers John Rees and Bil VornDick, the independently released WANDERIN’ (February 2008), which reached #10 on the Americana album chart and ranked #12 on WNCW's Top 100 of 2008.
It has spent the past months touring from coast to coast behind WANDERIN,’ racking up new fans and critical acclaim. At the same time, new songs have been pouring forth from singer-songwriter-guitarist Rob Teter and vocalist-violinist Phoebe Hunt; the band will be working in the studio this winter on a follow-up disc due out in 2009.
The Belleville Outfit came together in response to a slot at Merlefest 2007 offered to Spartanburg band The DesChamps, a group inspired and influenced by Uncle Walt’s Band and member Champ Hood, which had included singer-guitarist Marshall Hood (nephew of Champ), Teter and upright bass player Jeff Brown. Teter, Hood and Hunt met Brown, drummer Jonathan Konya and pianist Connor Forsyth in New Orleans, and after two days of marathon rehearsals, the band was ready for its first shows together — complete with a one-of-kind sound that mixes members’ Appalachian roots with the best of jazz, swing, blues, country, soul and gypsy music.
Teter, Forsyth and Konya had been studying music and business at Loyola for two years, and Hunt had earned a degree in history at the University of Texas at Austin while learning to play the fiddle in a local folk trio. Brown had joined the military. Hood was playing gigs for Austin’s Toni Price and Warren Hood and the Hoodlums. But after Merlefest, each decided to give the band their all. Its name (“belle ville” means beautiful town in French) honors New Orleans and the dramatic influence Hurricane Katrina had on the city and the Loyola trio. And “Belleville” is a Django Reinhardt song the band plays, which exemplifies a great portion of its sound.

Hand to Hand - Exhibit Opening
2/11/09 - Wednesday
7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Hand to Hand - the coast-to-coast collaborative collage of Rebecca Trawick and David Wallace Over the course of two years, Rebecca and David traded artwork back and forth via the United States Post Office adding to each work as it changed hands. Throughout this process, David and Rebecca never met in person - he lives in Pittsburgh, she lives in Southern CA. They found that working together was a way to communicate on a purely creative level. The work debuted at Moxie Dada in Pittsburgh in January 2007 and has since been shown at Phd Gallery in St. Louis and Tangent Lab in Wichita, working its way across the U.S. in much the same way the pieces themselves traveled between the artists.
Located At:
149 S.Daniel Morgan Ave.
Suite 2
Spartanburg SC 29306
Exhibits through March 13th.

Frequent Characteristics of Indigo Children
May be strong-willed, independent thinkers who prefer to do their own thing rather than comply with authority figures/parents
Have a wisdom and level of awareness and caring beyond their youthful experience
Traditional parenting and discipline strategies don’t appear effective with these children. If you try to force an issue, a power struggle is the typical outcome
Energetically Indigos are vibrating at a higher frequency so they can get scrambled by negative energy (human or machine)
Emotionally they can be very reactive and may have problems with anxieties, depression or temper rages if not energetically balanced
Are creative right brained thinkers but may struggle to learn in a traditional left brained school system
Often Indigos are diagnosed as having ADD/ADHD since they appear impulsive (their brain can process information faster) and they require movement to help keep them better focused
Indigos are very intuitive (often psychic) and may see, hear or know things that seem unexplainable
Indigos tend to be more visual, kinesthetic learners so remember best what they can picture in their brain and create with their hands
Indigos have more problems with food and environmental sensitivities since their system is more finely tuned
When their needs are not met, these children appear self centered and demanding although this is not their true nature
These children have incredible gifts and potential but may be shut down when not properly nurtured and accepted.
Now Compare this to what you have just Read....

NYC's mysterious syrup smell tracked to New Jersey
By SARA KUGLER
NEW YORK (AP) - City investigators have tracked down the source of a maple syrup smell that has puzzled New Yorkers several times in recent years. No offense, New Jersey, but it was you.
The harmless but long-confounding smell, which has drifted through swaths of the city at least nine times since 2005, was traced to a facility across the Hudson River that processes seeds for use as artificial flavorings.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg said that a team of odor investigators - environmental protection, health department and emergency management workers - ``put our noses to the ground'' to identify the culprit after another whiff in early January.
The investigation involved mapping the time and place of all the odor complaints to the city's 311 hot line, data that were then compared with wind and atmospheric conditions. Those were checked against air sampling tests during the periods that New Yorkers reported smelling the odor.
Bloomberg said the odor has been detected by New Yorkers only a small number of times because the conditions apparently had to be quite specific.
``You have to have a day with winds at the right speed, going in the right direction, and high humidity, but no rain,'' he said.
Officials found that the highest concentration of calls often came from the Upper West Side of Manhattan, and that the odor reports tended to come on days when wind speed was moderate - fast enough to carry odors but slow enough that they were not immediately dispersed.
Investigators also found that the wind on the days in question generally moved from west to east, and narrowed the search to facilities in New Jersey that process food additives and fragrances.
The probe found that one facility in Hudson County was processing fenugreek seeds on the evening of Jan. 29, when multiple odor complaints came in. Fenugreek is a common ingredient in curry powders, and its extract is also used in artificial vanilla, caramel, butterscotch and maple flavorings.
New Jersey and city officials say the facility, operated by a company called Frutarom, does not appear to be violating any rules or regulations. The mayor said it was possible that other such facilities in the area were also responsible.
``We are officially closing the case,'' Bloomberg said.
Yes, You Read Right...New York now smells like Maple Syrup...UNBELIEVABLE
Sorry Had to Post this...it's just too funny
