Not To Be Confused with " You Might Be a Redneck If... "

You Know You're Living in 2009 when...

1. You accidentally enter your password on the microwave.

2. You haven't played solitaire with real cards in years.

3. You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of 3.

4. You e-mail the person who works at the desk next to you.

5. Your reason for not staying in touch with friends and family is that they don't have e-mail addresses.

6. You pull up in your own driveway and use your cell phone to see if anyone is home to help you carry in the groceries.

7. Every commercial on television has a web site at the bottom of the screen.

8. Leaving the house without your cell phone, which you didn't have the first 20 or 30 (or 60) years of your life, is now a cause for panic and you turn around to go and get it.

10. You get up in the morning and go on line before getting your coffee.

11. You start tilting your head sideways to smile. : )

12. You're reading this and nodding and laughing.

13. Even worse, you know exactly to whom you are going to Copy and forward this message.

14. You are too busy to notice there was no #9 on this list.

15. You actually scrolled back up to check that there wasn't a #9 on this list.

AND NOW U R LAUGHING at yourself.

AiR Exit Show opens this Thursday.

HUB-BUB.COM will host a reception for the opening of the 2008-2009 Artists-in-Residence Exit Show on Thursday, March 19th from 5-9pm in The Showroom. The reception is free and the public is invited to attend. Complimentary drinks and hors d'oeuvres will be served. This event will coincide with the March Art Walk.

In June of 2008 three visual artists and one writer came to Spartanburg to “live free and create” as part of the vanguard HUB-BUB Artist-in-Residence program. The four AiRs have spent their time in Spartanburg imagining, inventing and creating. This exhibit represents the work created during their stay with HUB-BUB.
The exhibit includes a complex series of thickly layered, colorful, geometric mixed-media collages and prints by Jonas Criscoe. The pieces represent an evolution from his work in the June Entry Show. Ellie Pierson and Sarah Witt are collaborating on a brightly colored installation for the promotion of their ambiguous fictional product, “Lil’ Teenie.” They will perform in a fluorescent orange stage set periodically throughout the event. A playful poke at consumerism gravitates around both artists’ individual installations.

The exhibit will also include a series of broadsides, a collaboration between Jonas and resident writer Patrick Whitfill. Patrick will present a short reading from his manuscript at 8pm.

The Exit Show will be on display until April 17th.

The Art Walk returns every 3rd Thursday from 5-9 Pm....

A Little Pot o' Gold of Knowledge this St. Pattys Day

Happy St. Pattys Day..Here is the True Story of Saint Patrick of Ireland...

Thank you: www.history.com

St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, is one of Christianity's most widely known figures. But for all his celebrity, his life remains somewhat of a mystery. Many of the stories traditionally associated with St. Patrick, including the famous account of his banishing all the snakes from Ireland, are false, the products of hundreds of years of exaggerated storytelling.

Taken Prisoner By Irish Raiders

It is known that St. Patrick was born in Britain to wealthy parents near the end of the fourth century. He is believed to have died on March 17, around 460 A.D. Although his father was a Christian deacon, it has been suggested that he probably took on the role because of tax incentives and there is no evidence that Patrick came from a particularly religious family. At the age of sixteen, Patrick was taken prisoner by a group of Irish raiders who were attacking his family's estate. They transported him to Ireland where he spent six years in captivity. (There is some dispute over where this captivity took place. Although many believe he was taken to live in Mount Slemish in County Antrim, it is more likely that he was held in County Mayo near Killala.) During this time, he worked as a shepherd, outdoors and away from people. Lonely and afraid, he turned to his religion for solace, becoming a devout Christian. (It is also believed that Patrick first began to dream of converting the Irish people to Christianity during his captivity.)

Guided By Visions

After more than six years as a prisoner, Patrick escaped. According to his writing, a voice-which he believed to be God's-spoke to him in a dream, telling him it was time to leave Ireland.

To do so, Patrick walked nearly 200 miles from County Mayo, where it is believed he was held, to the Irish coast. After escaping to Britain, Patrick reported that he experienced a second revelation-an angel in a dream tells him to return to Ireland as a missionary. Soon after, Patrick began religious training, a course of study that lasted more than fifteen years. After his ordination as a priest, he was sent to Ireland with a dual mission-to minister to Christians already living in Ireland and to begin to convert the Irish. (Interestingly, this mission contradicts the widely held notion that Patrick introduced Christianity to Ireland.)

Bonfires and Crosses

Familiar with the Irish language and culture, Patrick chose to incorporate traditional ritual into his lessons of Christianity instead of attempting to eradicate native Irish beliefs. For instance, he used bonfires to celebrate Easter since the Irish were used to honoring their gods with fire. He also superimposed a sun, a powerful Irish symbol, onto the Christian cross to create what is now called a Celtic cross, so that veneration of the symbol would seem more natural to the Irish. (Although there were a small number of Christians on the island when Patrick arrived, most Irish practiced a nature-based pagan religion. The Irish culture centered around a rich tradition of oral legend and myth. When this is considered, it is no surprise that the story of Patrick's life became exaggerated over the centuries-spinning exciting tales to remember history has always been a part of the Irish way of life.)

And Now An Olde Irish Blessing :

May your neighbors respect you,
Troubles neglect you,
The angels protect you,
And Heaven accept you.

" Wheres Buffy when you really need her? "

This caught my eye while surfing the net, Weird Stroy but Hey Enjoy....

The skeleton of a 16th century female "vampire" has been unearthed from a graveyard in Venice, Italy. Archaeologists say the woman was believed by her peers to be a vampire because she was buried with a brick stuck between her jaws.

The Associated Press reports that the unusual burial is thought to be the result of an ancient vampire-slaying ritual. In 1576, Venice was hit with an epidemic of plague. Since medieval people did not understand how disease was spread, they often blamed cases of plague on the mythical bloodsucking creatures. "Vampires don't exist, but studies show people at the time believed they did," said Matteo Borrini, a forensic archaeologist and anthropologist at Florence University. "For the first time we have found evidence of an exorcism against a vampire."

The skeleton, which is very well preserved, was found in 2006 along with other corpses buried in a mass grave during the plague epidemic in Venice on the island of Lazzaretto Nuovo. Archaeologists have been studying the skeleton for two years. Borrini told AP that medieval texts show the belief in vampires was fueled by the disturbing appearance of decomposing bodies, which were seen when mass graves were reopened to bury fresh corpses. The gravediggers would see older bodies that were not only bloated with blood seeping out of the mouth, but also had an inexplicable hole in the shroud that was used to cover the face. "These characteristics are all tied to the decomposition of bodies," Borrini explained to AP. "But they saw a fat, dead person, full of blood and with a hole in the shroud, so they would say: 'This guy is alive, he's drinking blood and eating his shroud.'"

Now we know that the bloating is caused by a buildup of gases, and fluid seeps from the mouth as it is pushed up by decomposing organs. Bacteria would have consumed the shroud around the mouth area, leaving a hole. But in the 16th century, those who were found with a hole in the shroud--called "shroud-eaters"--were thought to be vampires who fed on the cloth and then cast a spell that would spread the plague so the vampire ranks would be increased. Lore at the time held that the only way to kill a vampire was to force a stone or brick in the corpse's mouth so it would starve to death. And this is what Borrini thinks happened to the woman in the grave, who died of plague at around the age of 60. She was identified as a vampire long after her death when the grave was reopened and either a gravedigger or priest jammed the brick into her mouth. Such superstitions were the only way people then could explain the plague epidemics that killed millions in the Middle Ages.

Hollywood transformed vampires into elegant, blood-sucking creatures. "The real vampire of tradition was different," Borrini told AP. "It was just a decomposing body.

" No, Really..uhm..a Dog Ate My Homework".

How to Tell If Someone Is Lying

If you think you can spot a liar a mile away, think again. In just a 10-minute conversation, most of us tell three lies, as well as a range of minor omissions, exaggerations and bluffs. But the average listener only spots a fib 54 percent of the time. When it comes to law enforcement, that may soon change.

The Times of London reports that British researchers from the University of Southampton have figured out how to spot a liar, and the test is so accurate it could someday replace the traditional polygraph.
In this study, volunteers were given a special timed computer test and instructed to type answers as fast as they could to various questions. Sometimes they told the truth. Other times they told lies. When the researchers, led by psychologist Aiden Gregg, analyzed their responses, they found that it took about 30 percent longer to type a lie, compared with the truth.

The test is called Tara, short for antagonistic response alethiometer, and the Times reports that it took the volunteers 1.2 seconds to speak the truth, but 1.8 seconds to tell a lie. Fully 85 percent of the time, the volunteer liars were slower when they prevaricated.

Tara could soon replace more traditional lie detector methods, which are no longer as effective as they once were since criminals have figured them out. "Habitual liars heard that people look away when telling lies, so they stare directly into your eyes," Gregg says. "However, we are not getting any smarter at detecting lies, and that could have serious consequences." So much for counting on shifty eyes to give the crook away.

A polygraph is not a lie detector as is often thought. Instead, it detects physiological expressions that can be associated with lying, such as a racing heart or sweaty hands. But determining whether someone is telling the truth or a lie is rather subjective so many innocent people are falsely implicated with polygraphs.

The Times reports that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is considering using Tara

" Quis custodiet ipsos custodes ? "

Translation: " Who Watches the Watchmen ? "

and the Answer to that is..Apparently Everyone....Opening Weekend " Watchmen" racked up an Impressive $55.7 MILLION dollars ( place pinky finger to side of mouth ) In It's opening Weekend.

Please Read the Story Below ....

LOS ANGELES (AP) - ``Watchmen'' clocked in with $55.7 million in ticket sales to claim the top spot at the box office, making director Zack Snyder's comic book adaptation about a team of twisted superheros the biggest opening of 2009 so far.

Still, it was not quite as big as the $70 million take of Snyder's ``300'' in 2007.

Dan Fellman, head of distribution for ``Watchmen'' studio Warner Bros., said it was unfair to compare the two films.

``They're two different movies,'' Fellman said Sunday. ``This is a movie that runs two hours and 45 minutes. That really only leaves the exhibitor with one showing a night. If you have an 8 o'clock show, the next show is at midnight. So with essentially one show a night, I think this is outstanding.''

Fans of the subversive comic book series by writer Alan Moore and illustrator Dave Gibbons waited years for Snyder's big-screen version. The anticipation was complicated last year when Warner Bros. and 20th Century Fox fought over who owned rights to the $125 million film. The studios eventually settled in January, keeping the March 6 opening intact.

Many ``Watchmen'' enthusiasts raced to IMAX theaters to see the exploits of Dr. Manhattan and company on the bigger screens. Greg Foster, chairman and president of IMAX Filmed Entertainment, said the movie sold out on all 124 IMAX screens it was playing on during the weekend and was the second largest opening in company history behind another superhero film, 2008's ``The Dark Knight.''

With no other new releases to compete against, ``Watchmen'' easily bumped off ``Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail,'' which had held the top spot the two previous weekends. The Lionsgate comedy took in $8.8 million, good for second place, according to studio estimates Sunday. 20th Century Fox's ``Taken,'' starring Liam Neeson, took the No. 3 position with $7.5 million.

For the year, movie attendance continues to soar, with revenue at $1.9 billion, up 16 percent through the same point in 2008. Even factoring in 2009's higher ticket prices, movie attendance is running 14 percent higher than last year.

Disney's ``Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience'' dropped from No. 2 to No. 9 at the box office.
``There have been some casualties this year,'' said Paul Dergarabedian, president of box office tracker Media By Numbers. ``Not every film can be a hit - even during this box-office bonanza we're having right now. It dropped about 78 percent the second weekend. It's a young audience. The ones that wanted to see the Jonas Brothers came out last weekend.''

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Media By Numbers LLC. Final figures will be released Monday.

1. ``Watchmen,'' $55.7 million.
2. ``Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail,'' $8.8 million
3. ``Taken,'' $7.5 million.
4. ``Slumdog Millionaire,'' $6.9 million.
