WOW....REALLY?

Iconic U.S. Natural Landmark Collapses

"It was one of the most photographed arches in Utah's Arches National Park, but now the famed Wall Arch is no more. It collapsed. "

"Although no one actually saw it fall apart, park officials think it happened on August 4 or 5. Located along Devils Garden Trail, the arch was one of the most popular in the park and was long a favorite stopping point for photographers, reports The Associated Press. Formed by entrada sandstone, it was whittled down over time by nature to form the distinctive formation that was 33 feet tall and 71 feet across. It was the 12th largest of the park's estimated 2,000 arches."

"Why did it collapse? Gravity and erosion are to blame, forces that will eventually destroy other arches in the park. "They all let go after a while," park official Paul Henderson told AP. This is the first major collapse since the nearby Landscape Arch fell in 1991. Rock continues to fall in the area, so the park has closed this portion of the trail. "

That Can't be Good...
